Early on the focus of my work had been landscape followed by an interest in plant forms. In 1990 I completed a series combining egg tempera and charcoal titled "Subliminal Landscape." 1992 resulted in a series of landscapes of city life. This inspiration was prompted by a period of unrest in Los Angeles. In 1993 I returned to an exploration of plant forms, a subject that occupied my attention for the next 10 or so years. My recent work has moved from land to sea. In these paintings and mixed media on paper pieces, I explore oceanic cell structures, single cell animals, anemones, sea sponges, etc. as well as plant life in the form of kelp, seaweed. Turbulent sands form a pointillist backdrop to these elements.
